Stay Safe: Avoid This Toll Text Scam!

Mar 5, 2025 | 1 Minute Read

We’re reaching out to inform you of a Toll Road text scam that has been circulating. Scammers are impersonating tolling agencies by sending a text demanding money to pay an unpaid toll bill. The text will include a link for individuals to enter their banking and personal information to “pay the toll” but in reality, it’s for scammers to steal their personal information.

The Federal Trade Commission has provided the following tips to avoid this scam:

  • Don’t click on any links in, or respond to, unexpected texts. Scammers want you to react quickly, but it’s best to stop and check it out.
  • Check to see if the text is legit. Reach out to the state’s tolling agency using a phone number or website that you know is real — not the information from the text.
  • Report or delete unwanted text messages. Use your phone’s “report junk” option to report unwanted texts to your messaging app or forward them to 7726 (SPAM). Once you’ve checked it out and reported it, delete the text.
